According to Broadside, the book will cover most of the Governor’s life, from childhood to his service in the Iraq war to his time as Governor, specifically focusing on his opposition to COVID-19 restrictions to fulfill the title’s promise. Desantis writes that Florida is the rebuttal to elites.

“What Florida has done is establish a blueprint for governance that has produced tangible results while serving as a rebuke to the entrenched elites who have driven our nation into the ground. Florida is proof positive that we, the people are not powerless in the face of these elites,”
The book’s description also markets the work as a type of origin story for DeSantis.
“A firsthand account from the blue-collar boy who grew up to take on Disney and Dr. (Anthony) Fauci, The Courage to Be Free delivers something no other politician’s memoir has before: stories of victory. This book is a winning blueprint for patriots across the country. And it is a rallying cry for every American who wishes to preserve our liberties,”
This will be DeSantis’ second book. His first volume, “Dreams From Our Founding Fathers: First Principles in the Age of Obama,” was released by the Jacksonville Beach “cooperative publisher” High Pitched Hum in 2011. Now the book has been out of print for quite a long time. According to Florida Politics, they’re only available on re-sale markets, where some copies have been advertised to sell for as much as 49,000.
Wednesday’s announcement of the new book’s release comes in the wake of DeSantis’s landslide victory for re-elections and likely fueling the rampant speculation about a 2024 Presidential run. Former President Donald Trump has declared his candidacy and repeatedly warned DeSantis against challenging him, threatening to release information that “won’t be very flattering” if he does.
HarperCollins, the publisher of DeSantis’s book, is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. The New York Post, also owned by Murdoch, has disparaged Trump recently, burying news of his announcement for president and later referring to Trump’s speech as “meandering” and criticizing him for his “false ” divisive claims about the 2020 election being stolen from him.”
