DeSantis Teases $2 Gas in Video Ahead of Energy Policy Rollout

Governor and Presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis released a new video Wednesday morning teasing the rollout of his new energy policy strategy. DeSantis offered a sneak peek into his complete plan, which includes rolling back the Biden administration’s wasteful green energy initiatives, jump-starting America’s fossil fuel production, and reigning in gas prices to two dollars per gallon.

“We’re going to open up all energy production,” DeSantis says in the video.

“We will be energy dominant again in this country,”

The video includes various news clips spanning the length of Biden’s term in office. The segments cover the Biden White House’s fixation on climate policy while sending oil production overseas and overseeing some of the largest price hikes at the pump in recent history.

“How come it’s wrong to produce our own oil and gas here, but you can go to Saudi Arabia and fist-bump to try to get it from Saudi?” the Governor says in one video.

“People are hurting,” he says, before adding that the Biden administration’s policies are “are driving your grocery bills to be more expensive, your gas going up.”

According to The Hill, average gas prices this week surged to $3.88 per gallon–an increase of 20 cents from last year.

“Let’s be energy dominant. And let’s get back to two dollar a gallon gas. That’s what the American people need,” DeSantis vows.

The Florida Governor’s complete energy strategy is expected to be revealed on Wednesday at a campaign event in Midland, Texas, later in the day. He plans to discuss the country’s shrunken domestic oil production, as well as Americans’ spiraling cost of living, which failed to be addressed by the Inflation Reduction Act.

“We want to give people relief at the pump. Gas is almost four dollars a gallon nationally. In 2025, we’re shooting for $2 a gallon, and that means you’ve got to let people do their jobs,” DeSantis said Tuesday during an appearance on Fox Business Network’s ‘Varney & Co.’

“We need to embrace the resources that we have, both in terms of hydrocarbons but also in terms of having an auto industry that makes sense… We’re going to get rid of the EV mandates, so that people can buy the cars they want.”

In his interview with Varney, DeSantis described Biden’s energy policing as exclusively benefitting America’s enemies, such as China, Iran, Russia, and Venezuela.

“We’re going to restore energy dominance. We’re going to be so dominant that all those hostile regimes are going to have a disadvantage, and that’s, I think, what the American people want,”

An average price of $2.00 per gallon has not been seen since the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Before that, an average that low was only attained in the wake of the oil market crash of 2016, and before that, during the 2009 Great Recession, according to data from AAA.

DeSantis is expected to unveil his new energy plan at 10:50 a.m. EST in Midland, Texas.
