DeSantis Slams American CEOs, Newsom For ‘Groveling’ Before Xi

Florida Governor and Presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis blasted several business leaders Friday for “groveling” before Chinese Communist leader Xi Jinping during his recent visit to San Francisco. Without naming anyone specifically, DeSantis accused several American CEOs of choosing to “bend the knee to the whims of the Chinese Communist Party” as the country seeks to expand its influence over the United States.

DeSantis also took a shot at rival governor Gavin Newsom, once again calling out the rapid cleanup of San Francisco’s streets in anticipation of the Chinese dictator’s arrival.

“And you know I look to see what’s going on, what went on in San Francisco the last couple days. You know, the city is in squalor, there’s poop on the streets, there’s people using drugs, people getting mugged, crime, all this stuff. But then Xi Jinping’s coming to town and what do they do? They get the poop off the sidewalk, they get the, clear the homeless, they stop the drugs, they stop the crime.”

Newsom confirmed that he had ordered the city cleaned up before the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, stating during a press conference, “It’s true because it’s true.”

“And then, you have this meeting where Xi’s there, you got some of these American CEOs basically just groveling in front of this dictator. And that just shows you, even with where we are now, and China wants to have more power over our country, but how many people in this country bend the knee to the whims of the Chinese Communist Party,” DeSantis continued, blasting the business leaders in attendance.

According to footage of the event, attendees of the $40,000 dinner included Apple CEO Tim Cook, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, and Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman, among others, according to the  Wall Street Journal.

“Those guys make money on Wall Street and stuff, but they’re empowering an adversary at the expense of the well-being of the American people. So we cannot be in a position where we’re relying on an adversary for key things that are necessary for our national survival. So we are going to re-shore supply chains. Not everything, every component has to necessarily be here.”

“I want as much as possible, but there’s friendly nations where supply chains work, and that’s great,” DeSantis continued. “But relying on China is a big, big mistake.”

During Thursday’s meeting with tech leaders, Xi received a standing ovation from the crowd following a speech calling for cooperation.

“China has no intention to challenge the United States or unseat it. Likewise, the United States should not bet against China or interfere in China’s internal affairs,” he said, according to an Associated Press translation.

“Pandas have long been envoys of friendship between the Chinese and American people … We are ready to continue our cooperation with the United States on panda conservation.”

Xi also met with President Joe Biden and California Governor Gavin Newsom during the summit.
