DeSantis Says Trump’s ‘Phony’ and ‘Juvenile’ Insults Could Cost GOP in 2024 Election
Governor Ron DeSantis says former President Donald Trump’s tendency to insult his political opponents is “juvenile” and “phony” and may cost Republicans the 2024 Presidential election. DeSantis appeared Friday on WUMR’s “Conversations with the Candidate” when a New Hampshire voter asked him how he would handle Trump if he started to “belittle” him.
‘These insults are so phony,” DeSantis responded.
‘These insults are juvenile. That is not the way a great nation should be conducting itself, that is not the way the President of the United States should be conducting himself.” ~ Gov. Ron DeSantis on WUMR
DeSantis said that while he enjoys debate, he has a rule against attacking people’s appearance. He says he teaches his children to behave the same way.
“We have a six, five, and a three-year-old,’ DeSantis said. “We teach our kids to treat people the way you would want to be treated yourself.”

DeSantis also warned that Trump’s brash style of politics could potentially keep Republicans from taking back the White House next year, saying that while “millions” of voters oppose the Biden agenda, they may not be eager to support the Trump campaign.
“As Republicans, that will cause us to lose if we behave that way. There are millions of voters out there who do not like what Biden is doing to this country,” DeSantis explained.
‘They do not like the direction the country is going in. But they aren’t going to sign up for a candidate who is behaving like that. So, let’s be better. Let’s look higher, and let’s set a good standard for our children to follow.” ~Gov. Ron DeSantis on WUMR

DeSantis previously said that he does not believe Trump’s “juvenile insults” are effective and suggested that Trump’s nicknaming is helping boost the DeSantis campaign.
“First of all, I mean, I think a lot of this stuff when he hits me with it with juvenile insults, I think that helps me,’ DeSantis said. ‘I don’t think voters like that. I think they look at it and they realize, like, you know what, that’s not effective. And so I don’t think it’s effective.”
During his appearance on WUMR, DeSantis also criticized Trump on a series of other issues, namely his broken promises to “drain the swamp” and lock up Hillary Clinton. DeSantis was also critical of the former President’s approach to the COVID-19 pandemic, accusing him of allowing Anthony Fauci to “run the country” with devastating lockdown protocols.
Last week, DeSantis appeared on Fox News to criticize Trump for losing control “over his own government.”
“He didn’t have control over Fauci. Fauci ran that government his last year in office. Trump should have fired him, he did not do that. He elevated Fauci and he made Fauci an international celebrity … I fought back against it.” ~ Gov. Ron DeSantis on Fox News
DeSantis has vowed to bring “a reckoning to the medical swamp” in Washington, D.C. if elected to the White House in 2024.
