DeSantis Calls to ‘Deport’ Ilhan Omar Over ‘Somalian First’ Speech
Governor Ron DeSantis is calling on “Squad” member Ilhan Omar to be kicked out of Congress and deported from the country following a controversial speech where the far-left Democrat vowed to place Somalian interests over the United States. Omar remarked to a crowd of constituents Saturday that she was “Somalian first, Muslim second,” in a viral clip that drew widespread backlash.
In a translated video shared by DeSantis on X, the Somali-born congresswoman claims, “The U.S. government will only do what Somalians in the U.S. tell them to do. They must do what we want and nothing else. They must follow our orders, and that is how we will safeguard the interest of Somalia.”
“Expel from Congress, denaturalize and deport!” the Florida Governor said in reply.
Omar gave the Somali-language speech during an event at a Minneapolis hotel. In her remarks, the Minnesota Democrat railed against a deal by Ethiopia to provide Somaliland–a breakaway region of Somalia–access to the sea. Rhoda J. Elmi, Somaliland’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, shared the translation of Omar’s speech. Omar reportedly told audience members that she was “Somalian first, Muslim second” and “here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system.”
“For as long as I am in the U.S. Congress, Somalia will never be in danger, its waters will not be stolen by Ethiopia or others … Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system.”

Terrorist sympathizer Ilhan Omar in her own words: Somalian first. Muslim second. She never mentions America.
She flaunts using her position as congresswoman to protect Somalia’s border while our border is invaded by MILLIONS of illegals who are a danger to America.

The speech was strongly rebuked by Republicans, who called for Omar to face consequences for her ‘Somalia First’ position. Georgia congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene went as far as to call Omar a “terrorist sympathizer.”
“Terrorist sympathizer Ilhan Omar in her own words: Somalian first. Muslim second. She never mentions America,” Greene said in an X post. “She flaunts using her position as congresswoman to protect Somalia’s border while our border is invaded by MILLIONS of illegals who are a danger to America. These people hate America, and they’re so emboldened by the Democrats’ disdain for our country, they’re not even trying to hide it anymore.”
House Majority Whip and fellow Minnesota Congressman Tom Emmer called Omar’s remarks “appalling” and called on her to resign from the House on Monday.
“Ilhan Omar’s appalling, Somalia-first comments are a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she was elected to serve and a direct violation of her oath of office. She should resign in disgrace.”

In response, Omar accused her critics of pushing ‘propaganda,’ and said the translation of her speech was “completely off.”
“It’s not only slanted but completely off, but I wouldn’t expect more from these propagandists. I pray for them and for their sanity.”
“Somalis in Somalia and in the diaspora are united in that effort, and I stand in solidarity with them. No amount of harassment and lies will ever change that,” Omar said.
