DeSantis Blasts Trump Over BLM Leader’s Endorsement – ‘Makes Perfect Sense’
Governor Ron DeSantis says it “makes perfect sense” that Trump received the endorsement of a Rhode Island Black Lives Matter leader this month, given that the former President “did nothing but sit in the White House” during the 2020 BLM riots.
The latest war of words between the two Presidential candidates erupted Wednesday morning after Trump slammed DeSantis over high insurance costs in his state and called him an “Absentee Governor.” Shortly after, Trump boasted that he had received the endorsement of Mark Fisher, the co-founder of Black Lives Matter Rhode Island and founder of BLM Incorporated.
“Spoke with Mark Fisher yesterday, a great guy, very honored to have his and BLM’s support,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.
“I have done more for Black people than any other President (Lincoln?), including 10 year funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, where they had none, Opportunity Zones, Criminal Justice Reform, and much more. Thank you to Mark!”
“BLM praising Donald Trump — and Trump celebrating it — makes perfect sense,” DeSantis fired back on the social media platform X.

When BLM was burning down cities and assaulting police officers in cities across this country, Trump did nothing but sit in the White House tweeting “LAW & ORDER!”

DeSantis criticized Trump’s handling of the 2020 BLM riots that followed the death of George Floyd in May 2020. When rioters and looters were inflicted billions of dollars in property damage and attacked thousands of police officers, DeSantis says Trump abandoned his post and chose to “tweet” rather than intervene.
“When BLM was burning down cities and assaulting police officers in cities across this country, Trump did nothing but sit in the White House tweeting ‘LAW & ORDER!’” DeSantis said, before contrasting the former President’s response with his own record.
“We did it differently in Florida. I didn’t just tweet. I took action and called up the National Guard. We were not going to let our cities burn. As President, I will not sit idly by and watch rioters torch American cities.”
In an early morning Truth Social post, Trump had previously attacked DeSantis for running his Presidential campaign while home insurance costs remain high in Florida.
“Ron DeSanctimonious has become an Absentee Governor of Florida, never there, not working,” Trump said.
“The same thing happened to Sloppy Chris Christie. He failed in New Jersey, and left with an 8% approval rating, lowest ever for a governor. Get back to Florida, Ron, and do what you campaigned on, which was NOT running for President. Fix the highest in the Nation Insurance problem. Oh, and you’re 54 Points down!”

Earlier this month, Rhode Island BLM co-founder Mark Fisher appeared on ‘The Kim Iversen Show’ where he said he “personally” liked Trump. When asked why he was endorsing Trump in the 2024 election over the other candidates, Fisher told Iversen, “Because everybody else sucks,”
“You know, I like Trump personally and I think right now who we have sitting in the Oval Office is just a deep disappointment … I deeply have disdain for him and I really dislike the vice president [Kamala Harris] as well.”
Despite Trump and DeSantis’ comments, Newsweek reported that a spokesman for BLM Rhode Island stated that Fisher is “no longer affiliated with BLM RI.” The group reportedly told the outlet, “His position with us was and is terminated.”
