‘Dangerous, Offensive, Disgusting:’ Tim Scott Tears into The View

Tim Scott, 2024 Republican presidential candidate and sole black GOP Senator, defended Republicans’ record on race issues during an interview on the View only to be met with a lecture he slammed for “disgusting” rhetoric about black children in America.

Before his appearance on the show, host Joy Behar claimed Scott would not be a Republican if he really understood race issues. Behar was not on the panel for Scott’s interview.

“One of the reasons why I’m on the show is because of the comments that were made, frankly, on the show – that the only way for a young African American kid to be successful in this country is to be the exception and not the rule. That is a dangerous, offensive, disgusting message to send to our young people today – that the only way to succeed is by being the exception,'” Scott lamented Monday morning.

Scott backed up this claim by noting how many black Americans have been in positions of systemic influence and power, citing offices as high as the president and vice president, along with all significant news network media panels. During his list of examples, one host interrupted, “Still exceptions.” Scott also noted the improvement in black employment rates, income, and education in the U.S. and the faith of earlier generations of black Americans that such progress was possible.

“The fact of the matter is that progress in America is palpable. It can be measured in generations…. So what I’m suggesting is  that the yesterday’s exception is today’s rule.”

However, when Scott began talking about how vital providing education is to him, the show went to an ad break, a timing that Scott jokingly implied was meant to prevent the audience from hearing the success of his policies.

Elsewhere in the show, Scott’s point about America’s capacity to become more perfect was interrupted by a co-host, who challenged his ideas with the notion of systemic racism.

Just as Scott was going to respond, Whoopi Goldberg interrupted. “Go up and tell him, go tell him,” Goldberg said to those behind the camera as they told her they had to go to commercial.

‘Tell it from the mountain,’ Scott said as the producer walked up to him from off-camera and said: “We have to go to commercial, we’ll come back. You’re going to stick around.”

“I think ya’ll have commercial breaks whenever I get on,’ the 2024 candidate quipped in response.
