“As part of Governor DeSantis’ multi-million dollar award for resilience projects across the state, the second half of the Corbett Levee has finally been funded to completion- a high priority agenda item in my district. Facing incredible danger for inland flooding, my constituents can rest a little easier knowing that catastrophe will be mitigated in the next major storm. To those in my district who waited for over a decade, help is on the way,” Commissioner Baxter said.

Following Tropical Storm Isaac in 2012, the state of Florida funded the construction of just half of a levee
to reduce inland flooding on Florida’s coast. District 6 residents have been vulnerable to the catastrophic results of flooding, since an entire half of the levee was unfinished. The levee will hold water levels higher to protect wildlife and preserve the ecosystem residing in the Acreage. Governor DeSantis created the Office of Resilience and Coastal Protection in addition to appointing Wes
Brooks the state’s first Chief Resilience Officer. The state has made an aggressive effort to protect Florida’s natural resources and infrastructure.
