Chris Pratt: ‘Every Dad’ Has Revenge Fantasies if Someone ‘F–ked With Their Kids’
Actor Chris Pratt says that “every dad” has a secret fantasy of what they would do if someone messed with their family, and he offered details of his own in a new interview with Men’s Journal. According to the Guardians of the Galaxy star, there is a reason why films like Taken and his new show The Terminal List perform so well with audiences, and it’s because men frequently think about what they would do if they traded places with the protagonist.
“I think every dad secretly fantasizes about what they would do if someone ever f–ked with their kids,” Pratt said in the Thursday interview.
“Whenever you’re put in a position, or even imagine a position, where those kids are in danger, your mind goes to wild places. I think that’s why those storylines resonate so strongly with fathers.”
Pratt is the star of the 2022 series The Terminal List, about an ex-Navy SEAL who sets out to avenge the murder of his family and expose an elaborate government conspiracy. The series was blasted as an “Unhinged Right-Wing Revenge Fantasy” by critics, including The Daily Beast but is loved by audiences.
“Your partner sees you staring off into the distance and says, ‘Honey, what are you thinking about?’ And you say, ‘Oh, nothing.’ But what you’re really thinking is, ‘Where’s the duct tape, and how deep is the trunk?'” Pratt told the Journal. “I think that’s most dads. Or maybe that’s just me, and I’m revealing something here.”
“But as someone who’s talked to a lot of dads, I think we all ask ourselves what we would do,”

Pratt also referenced the 2008 thriller Taken as a prime example, saying it was “such a hit” because “us dads are just like, ‘Yes! Get ’em! Use that special set of skills.'”
When asked about his experiences as a father, Pratt answered that raising kids had made him a “more versatile actor,” driving him to take on more PG-rated roles. His advice to young people: “Don’t wait.”
“People say all the time, ‘Don’t rush to have kids.’ I personally disagree. Rush. Have them. Of course, make sure you find a great partner, but don’t wait. I was talking to Adam Sandler a while back and he said, “Every day you wait is a day they don’t get to have you in their life.” The younger you have kids, the more time they get to have with you. It’s wild. Having kids is incredible. The things you normally take for granted in life are new.”

“As they grow up, it becomes more about connecting with them as individuals and what makes them unique. The softness of their hearts. How their minds work. How they’re the same as you. How they’re different,” the actor added.
The Terminal List has been renewed for a second season but has not yet received a release date.
