Chris Christie Roasted For Defending Disney – ‘A Ton of Stupid’

Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie sounded off about Ron DeSantis on Tuesday amid reports that the failed 2016 presidential candidate might be ramping up for a second round. Christie, who left office in 2018 with a mere 19 percent approval rating, accused DeSantis of not being a real conservative and characterized his war with Disney as something he “always thought liberals did.” The former Garden State Governor’s approval ratings have not recovered much since leaving office, and he received a roasting on Twitter for his comments.

“Another Republican who is proud of losing honorably. I’d rather one who fights back and wins.” – Chris A. (@cmalex79)

Christie appeared in an interview with Semafor on Tuesday, giving his thoughts on top Republicans Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump amid speculation of a future White House bid. The New Jersey Republican lashed out against DeSantis and echoed the criticisms of other “small government” conservatives.

“I don’t think Ron DeSantis is a conservative based on his actions towards Disney,” Christie said in the interview.

“Where are we headed here now, that if you express disagreement in this country, the government is allowed to punish you? To me, that’s what I always thought liberals did. And now all of a sudden here we are participating in this with a Republican governor.”

Christie’s criticisms were in line with similar comments made by Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and former Vice President Mike Pence, who characterized the loss of Disney’s special tax status as an affront to free speech. Disney previously involved itself in Florida state politics after it vowed to stop the anti-woke Parental Rights in Education bill, and threatened to use financial warfare to achieve its mission.

Christie was swiftly mocked on social media for his comments,

“Christie is a ton of stupid,” author and show host Mark Levin wrote.

“And he has been invited on my radio show several times. I would LOVE to debate him on conservatism, Disney, and all the rest. Instead, he hides behind his liberal friends at ABC and his RINO clapping seals.”

Levin continued, “DeSantis understands we are in a culture war and that corporatists are reaching into our legislatures, classrooms, and more, affirmatively making policy with their corporate funding, ESG, and DEI.”

“Christie is kind of right,” said Dave Reaboi. “DeSantis isn’t anything like the loser conservatives who’ve conserved nothing, content with impotently ‘yelling stop.’ He’s solidly right-wing—and that’s exactly what we need.”

“Chris Christie still thinks he’s relevant… no one cares about his opinions,” said another Twitter user.

This week, DeSantis announced that he would be mounting a new legislative effort against Disney, after the entertainment conglomerate attempted to tie the hands of the new oversight board through a last-minute agreement.

“They thought they could create some type of development agreement that would render everything that we did null and void,” DeSantis told reporters. “That’s not gonna fly.”
