A beloved cheap, all-American comfort food is the humble grilled cheese sandwich, and believe it or not, it’s been around for centuries. Now it’s getting the recognition it so richly deserves. National Grilled Cheese Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated annually on April 12th.

My husband, a self-proclaimed grilled cheese expert, says the secret to a spectacular grilled cheese is to make it using salted butter. I must admit that one of his grilled cheese sandwiches with Campbell’s tomato soup is, umm, umm, good.  

To celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day, people often make and enjoy grilled cheese sandwiches at home or visit their favorite local restaurant to try out their version of the classic sandwich. Anyway, you slice it; grilled cheese is a delightful treat. Enjoy.
