Burglar Captured After Neighbor and His Dog Tracks Blood Trail
Jonathan Leaf, 32, of Cocoa Beach is in the Brevard County Jail after he was found lying on a bed, covered in blood, inside a home he didn’t live in.
A local resident found Leaf in the house as he was walking his dog. As he passed by the house, he spotted broken windows, a blood trail leading into the residence, and the front door was covered in blood. The neighbor called 911 and Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived to check it out.

When deputies entered the residence they found the suspect, Jonathan Leaf, laying on a bed covered in blood. Leaf woke up as deputies were inside the home and he told them he was unsure of the previous night’s events, the sheriff’s office said. That comment could indicate there were drugs or alcohol involved in the incident, and the man thought he was at home trying to gain entry.
Deputies said Leaf had apparently decided to break a large bay window to gain entry to the house. It’s believed the severe pain and loss of blood likely caused Leaf to pass out on the bed until deputies arrived, according to authorities.

“During his attempts to get inside, Leaf’s arm was severely cut by the broken glass, leading to his trail of blood across the front of the residence and on the interior,” the Brevard sheriff’s office said.
Leaf has previous arrests in Brevard County for driving under the influence and domestic battery.
No one was at home during the time of the burglary.
Leaf was taken to the hospital where he received several stitches for the numerous cuts he received. He was then transported to the Brevard County Jail where he is being held on $17,000 bond charged with criminal mischief under $1,000 damage, and residential burglary.
