British Man Returns to Crime Scene Drunk, Admits to Murder – Sentenced to 26 Years in Prison

Marek Hecko, 26, of Chelmsford, Essex, England, was sentenced Tuesday to 26 years in prison for murder after he was caught on a bodycam video coming back to the crime scene of a fatal stabbing and telling a police officer, “I know what happened.”

According to Police, Hecko murdered Adrian Ellingford, 44, who was dating his ex-girlfriend Stephanie Breame, by stabbing him in the back so hard he hit bone and broke the handle off the knife.

Police say Hecko was stalking Breame and broke into her home at night while she and Ellingford were sleeping. Ellingford, a married father of two, was stabbed twice in the house in July 2022.

Just a few hours after the murder, an Essex police officer guarding the crime scene recorded a visibly drunken Hecko on his bodycam coming over while taking swigs from a half-empty bottle of Courvoisier.

In the video, the officer asks Hecko to state his name, and he refuses.

“I know what happened,” he brags. “And you need me to figure it out what happened.”

“If you don’t have me, you don’t know what happened.”

When the officer asks him to explain, Hecko replies: “I just know that some guy came here, and he f–ked up some guy.”

Hecko continues on that he knows what had happened before, saying: “You’re gonna think about me, but it’s not gonna be me because there’s no proof.”

He then declares: “I know everything. This city is mine.”

The recording ends with Hecko’s arrest as officers struggle to get Hecko into the paddy wagon.

While Hecko was in custody, he was identified as the main suspect in Ellingford’s killing.

Prosecutors told Chelmsford Crown Court how Hecko broke into Breame’s home while in bed with Ellington.

Once inside, Hecko took a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Ellingford with such force that the blade struck a bone in the victim’s chest, and the handle broke off.

According to prosecutors, in the weeks before the killing, Hecko had been stalking his ex-girlfriend by showing up at her work and home uninvited and sending her messages and videos.

Prosecutors said Hecko had been in a relationship with Stephanie Breame for seven months before they broke up in May because she disapproved of his drug use, but Hecko continued to be “obsessed” with her.

Hecko appeared emotionless in court and was sentenced to at least 26 years, with a credit for 230 days served.

At Hecko’s sentencing, Ellingsford’s widow, Laura, delivered a victim statement, describing her late husband of 17 years as a “truly brilliant father” whose death has devastated the family.
