Body of Missing Florida Toddler Found in Alligator’s Mouth After Mother’s Murder

The desperate search for a missing Florida toddler ended on Friday after the boy’s body was found in the jaws of an alligator. Authorities had been searching for Taylen Mosley since Thursday after police found his mother dead in her apartment. The boy’s father has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

“It is with great sadness that I have to tell you that we found the body of Taylen Mosley,” St. Petersburg Police Chief Anthony Holloway announced Friday evening. “My condolences to his family.”

2-year-old Taylen had been the subject of a statewide Amber Alert since Thursday. St. Petersburg police organized search parties and called on volunteers to help find the boy, saying they believed “he could be in danger.”

“The child had been missing since his 20- year-old mother, Pashun Jeffery, was found stabbed to death in her St. Petersburg apartment,” a department press release stated. Police were reportedly assisted by multiple local, state, and federal agencies.
“The investigation led detectives to search… Lake Maggiore. After spending all day searching the area, this evening officers were alerted to an alligator seen with something in its mouth.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue reportedly deployed a dive team to the lake to investigate. After police arrived at the scene, officers fired a single round into the alligator.

“The alligator was killed in order to retrieve the body, confirmed as that of Taylen Mosley. The medical examiner will determine what caused his death.”

Following the tragic news, WFLA News spoke with some of the boy’s surviving family.

“He’s always calling his mom on his cell phone,” Lakita Denson said. “He miss his mom, they calling each other all the time. She really loved Taylen.” Theo Brickhouse-Sails added, “We just want to say that Taylen is a beautiful little boy. He’s really loving and caring.”

Taylen’s mother, Pashun, was discovered dead Thursday from multiple stab wounds. Detectives found her body in her apartment, with a trail of blood leading from her car. The boy’s father, Thomas, checked himself into the hospital the same day with several “cuts to his hands into his arms.” He was immediately named a person of interest.

The St. Petersburg Police Department stated in the press release, “[t]onight, Chief Holloway announced that Taylen’s father, Thomas Mosley, is charged with two counts of 1st-degree murder for the death of Pashun Jeffery, and of his son, Taylen Mosley.”

The department also acknowledged the many volunteers that assisted in trying to locate Taylen,

“The detectives and officers of the St. Petersburg Police Department worked tirelessly on this case. The Department would like to thank all of the agencies that assisted in this investigation… Chief Holloway would also like all of the many volunteers who planned to join us Saturday morning searching for Taylen. Unfortunately, their assistance is no longer needed.”
