Hodges was walking westbound on U.S. 90 in Lake City, Florida near the Columbia County Courthouse where he had just left after jury duty was cancelled. While walking down the street, Deputy Gohde of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office pulled over and made contact with Hodges. Deputy Gohde said she thought he was carrying a weapon in his back pocket. Hodges showed her it was his cane, as he is legally blind. Despite knowing that Hodges was not carrying a weapon, Deputy Gohde still wanted to see Hodges I.D., he refused stating:

“Are you a tyrant?”

Deputy Gohde’s supervisor Sgt. Harrison appeared on the scene and backed up Gohde’s demands. Hodges was then detained, placed in handcuffs, and was searched for an I.D. Deputy Gohde ran Hodges license through the system which came back negative for warrants.

Deputy Gohde then stated: “Alright Mr. Hodges, was that so hard.”

Hodges: “It’s gonna be, I want your name and your badge number.”

Sgt. Harrison: “You know what, put him in jail for resisting.”

Hodges was transported to The Columbia County Jail and charged with resisting an officer without violence.

He has not found a proper attorney and is asking for help. In the comment section of his arrest video, Hodges posted:

“I do need representation. I am not book smart.” Ive not fond representation yet. I wish I were capable of compiling and contacting each and every one of the big hitters I have seen on YouTube, but I am not mentally equipped to the task.

In my defense, I am one of the not sharp tools in the box.

You see what I went through. There is much that needs to be done. Left to my own devises I would most assuredly have a mess on my hands in no time at all. I’m not a tech person, anymore IF I ever was. And thanks in part to a Closed Head Injury and poor education, I am not equipped very well to confront and deal with this situation. So Your Advice and support are very valuable and greatly appreciated.
