Albert Borroto Joins Health Care District Board as Newly-Appointed Member
West Palm Beach, FL – The Health Care District of Palm Beach County’s newest board member, Albert Borroto, was recently appointed by the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners for a four-year volunteer term.
“I am honored to have been appointed to the Health Care District’s governing board,” said Albert Borroto. “Having dedicated my career to emergency medical services and public safety here in Palm Beach County, I am eager to join forces with the board and leadership team to advance our mission of providing high-quality health care to all residents.”
Borroto brings more than 30 years of experience in emergency medical services with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. His diverse career reflects a deep commitment to public safety, with roles such as a flight nurse on the Health Care District’s Trauma Hawk helicopters, an RN in the JFK Medical Center emergency room, and a public information officer for Palm Beach County Fire Rescue. Currently, he serves as the communications coordinator for the Professional Firefighters Local 2928. Borroto holds degrees in emergency management services and nursing from Palm Beach State College.

The Health Care District Board consists of seven appointed members who serve voluntarily for a maximum of two terms. Three commissioners are appointed by the Governor of Florida, three by the Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners, and one is a representative of the State Department of Health. The other members of the Health Care District Board include Carlos Vidueira, Chair; Patrick Rooney, Jr., Vice Chair; Tammy Jackson-Moore, Secretary; Jyothi Gunta, MD, MPH, Director of the Florida Department of Health for Palm Beach County; Tracy Caruso and Cathleen Ward.

The Health Care District of Palm Beach County is a special taxpayer-funded district that has served as a healthcare safety net for 37 years to fill in gaps in access to healthcare services. This unique healthcare system covers the entire county and provides diverse services such as 13 community health centers (Federally Qualified Health Centers) which serve everyone regardless of ability to pay; school health clinicians staffed in nearly 170 public schools; two Trauma Hawk aeromedical helicopters; a rural, public teaching hospital, Lakeside Medical Center; a skilled nursing center; a ground ambulance program for Health Care District patients needing a higher level of care; a specialty benefits program for eligible, uninsured residents; and quality performance oversight of the county’s lifesaving trauma system.
