ACLU Defends ‘Trans’ Murderer-Rapist, Says Florida Denying Sex Change Op is ‘Cruel and Unusual’
The American Civil Liberties Union, colloquially referred to as the “ACLU,” defended transgender death penalty recipient Duane Owen, saying that his lack of “gender-affirming care” was “cruel and unusual punishment.”
The graphic that accompanies the tweet also includes a not-so-subtle jab at Ron DeSantis, with the word “Florida” and his execution in the state being emphasized in bold lettering.
The state of Florida never provided medically necessary gender-affirming care to Duane Owen — causing her enormous suffering and violating her right to be free from cruel and unusual punishment for the more than 30 years she was in state custody. pic.twitter.com/kjmzCrY2uh

Owen was sentenced to death nearly 40 years ago in 1984 over ruthless attacks on a mother and babysitter. The now-dead inmate stabbed a 14-year-old babysitter before violently raping her and bludgeoned to death a Boca Raton mother of two with a hammer, also raping her repeatedly, landing Owen six life sentences and the death penalty in Florida. Governor Ron DeSantis finally ended the 40-year death row stint, signing an execution warrant on Friday.

Owen has been trying relentlessly to appeal his conviction, with his defense being that he was criminally insane and therefore ineligible for the death penalty. The murderer’s lawyers argued he suffered from a plethora of mental disorders, including schizophrenia, dementia, psychosis, and gender dysphoria. The court found that every allegation of mental illness was fabricated by Owen, and instead decided that he was a sexual sadist who took pleasure in hurting others.
According to DeSantis 2024 Rapid Response Director Christina Pushaw, the serial rapist wanted to be housed in a women’s prison as well.
Despite the shocking revelations, the ACLU defended Owen and said his false claims of gender dysphoria – likely an attempt at averting the death penalty – were legitimate. Referring to Owen, a male, as “she,” the ACLU implied the child rapist and murderer “should be accorded the ‘essence of human dignity’.”
“In legal papers she drafted, Owen wrote that she “should be accorded the ‘essence of human dignity’ and be allowed to become ‘who she was meant to be’ before her death. No one should be killed by the state. The time to end the racist, unfair and cruel death penalty is now.” ~American Civil Liberties Union on Twitter
These battles you choose have little to do with human dignity. More of an agenda to normalize a mental illness of gender dysphoria and in this case appeasing the demands of a convicted murderer. A wedge issue to divide the Nation. Pick more Righteous battles for real victims.

The organization drew heaps of criticism from onlookers over its baseless legitimization of his “gender dysphoria” claims and its defense of his “human dignity.”
“Owen killed and sexually assaulted a teen girl and beat a mom of 2 to death in separate attacks. Owen also viciously attacked 2 other woman (who managed to survive). Owen never bothered to accorded the ‘essence of human dignity’ to his/her victims, & deserves no sympathy.” ~@LooneyOldLady on Twitter
What does ACLU mean by “become who she was meant to be”? Do they not claim Owen was in fact a woman? Was she, or was she not a woman? Being a woman surely is not about wearing a costume and getting breast implants.

Others say the ACLU has “lost the plot.” Once characterized by a fierce loyalty to freedom of speech and staunch opposition to totalitarianism, the organization now largely works to censor “bigoted” conservative voices and enforce DEI through legal action.
“So ACLU takes the stance that he is owed the right not only to life, which he alone decided others were not…twice…but owed a different life than he was born with; therefore, WE OWE HIM the right of a highly priced fake one? Do you even remember your original mission ACLU?” ~@Meow81998508 on Twitter
